Daniel is a multidisciplinary designer with a keen focus on digital product design and branding.

From Toronto to Tokyo, he has worked with brands and agencies, providing visual concepts for a broad range of digital and print projects.

Integrating his background in visual arts and his passion for music, Daniel’s work is not about pushing pixels, but about telling a story and creating new modes of thinking.

Mixmag is a British electronic dance and clubbing media brand and magazine that covers dance events and music reviews. When they opened a new office in Tokyo, my responsibilities were to design the second issue for Japanese readers in addition to typesetting Japanese translations.

PROJECT: ONTARIO CANNABIS STORE

ROLE: ART DIRECTION, DESIGNER

When the OCS launched in 2019, the government was criticized by the public for spending $650,000 on the branding which resulted in looking "bland and unfinished". My goal was to create a new identity aimed to provide Ontarians with clear and welcoming visuals to improve the experience of their services, prioritizing on providing reliable information to consumers.

ROLE: PRODUCT DESIGNER

80% of smartphone users check their phone within 1 hour of waking up or going to sleep, 35% of which will do within 5 minutes. This isn't the users' fault, phones are addictive by design. Control OS aims to eliminate distractions and boost mindfulness.

Shu Uemura wanted to introduce a new way to reward their members. Following their style guide and keeping Hick’s Law in mind, I designed the landing page of their website to be an intuitive and simple experience.

Playmodes studio incorporates music and technology to create an immersive and experimental experience. MY role was to help establish Playmodes in Tokyo by designing new brand guidelines, creating promotional materials, and building their website.

ITJ Designing a brand for a multinational corporation’s conference.

PROJECT: IMPERIAL TOBACCO JAPAN

ROLE: ART DIRECTION, BRAND DESIGNER

For ITJ’s year-end conference, my team was tasked to brand their conference from the ground up. The visuals were based on the slogan『夢は努力の結晶未来へのダイヤ』which translates to, ‘the crystallization of an individual’s efforts will become the diamond of the future.’

PROJECT: GAINSBUDDY — REACT APP

ROLE: CO-FOUNDER, PRODUCT DESIGNER

Those who work out, or have ever attempted to work out, understand how difficult it is to go to the gym consistently without anyone's support. GainsBuddy helps users find online gym buddies and share their workout routines, weight and lifting progress, and gym attendance. This allows users to motivate each other and achieve consistent progress together. GainsBuddy also helps users find the most effective workout routines. The app is currently in development.

PROJECT: DROPOMETER — ANDROID APP

ROLE: UI/UX DESIGNER

Dropometer is smartphone-based surface tension and contact angle measuring device. After reviewing the early prototypes, I was tasked to improve the user interface and the user experience of the app. I designed the mockups with Sketch and handed it off to the developers using Zeplin.

Many people have trouble managing their tasks, especially when they are overloaded with work. Using Polar, users can set their personal priority list based on the type of task, as well as individual task priorities. Polar will choose a task for you to complete using a smart algorithm.

PROJECT: FORAGE — ANDROID APP

ROLE: CO-FOUNDER, PRODUCT DESIGNER

Ever been out with friends and couldn't decide where to eat? Forage gathers all of the restaurants near the user using the Yelp API and, based on the user's preference, displays relevant restaurants. For indecisive users, they can just let Forage choose a place for them. With the release on Google Play Store, we had over 5000 downloads in two months with an average of 4.5 stars.

Hosting world-renowned comedians such as Russell Peters and Jimmy Carr, Tokyo Comedy Club offers enjoyable midweek evening outs as well as a unique opportunity to network with other professionals. I designed social media assets, printed posters, and iFlyer tickets.

Georgia Homeland of Wine is a long running exhibition that showcases the history and culture of winemaking in Georgia. Their mission was to popularize and create awareness for Georgian wine in Japan. I designed the promotional poster, photo wall, step and repeat, napkins, and table settings.

Passoã is a popular passion fruit liqueur from France that has had a presence in Japan for many years. I created social media assets, illustrations, and POS materials for the Hanami Festival while maintaining a cohesive brand aesthetics across all their digital platforms.
